Why should we have to do what my wife wants to do? Why can’t we do what I want to do, for a change?

Every time she suggests doing something that myself and the kids reject as ‘our’ idea of fun, she gets pissed and won’t stop hounding us. For example, last year, for Spring Break, she suggested we go to a mountain town with our kids, stay in a hotel, and do a couple of cool things. So, we did…not that I really wanted to, or could really afford to. This year she wants to do the same thing, but in a different town. My son and I want to go turkey hunting, instead, and GOD knows what my daughter wants to do (usually anything that doesn’t involve her family), so my wife starts huffing and puffing about not accepting her idea. Why can’t she just give in and do what we want to do, for a change? Heck, we could go back to our home state, her and our daughter could visit with her family, while my son and I go turkey hunting. That way, everyone is happy!
By the way, there is a lot more to this topic, I don’t really want to bore folks with too many details.Comments

Because your wife is self-absorbed. It’s all about her. Welcome to the club. And you are behind on your membership dues.
It would be a good idea to see a counselor, or bring her to a marriage counselor if possible. Your wife demanding vacations for everyone isn’t fair to the family. If you both have different ideas, it would be more fair to take turns–or do different vacations. You could tell her, I don’t want to go to the mountains. How about you doing that, and we’ll do ….
My husband and I take turns deciding where to go and what to do. We usually agree on what to do, but sometimes our views of what is fun are dramatically different! We try to compromise though. If that doesn’t work and we are both being stubborn, he picks the place and then I pick the next. It has made life a ton easier. Oh and we always get the kids opinions. Because if they aren’t having fun on vacation, no one is! Good luck!!
It would seem to me she’s never had to give in. All she has to do is have her fit and everyone succumbs to her will. If you and your son want to go hunting and going to your home state seems like a plausible solution, tell her you all want to go there. if she throws a fit, Oh-well………….. She has to grow up sometime.
